Well, two days after I wrote this, it was announced that TOR has bled 25% of its population... that's one-quarter... since March. SINCE MARCH?!? That is massive. And it highlights everything I said here, and also shows that what I've been experiencing in the game, ie: a dropping population, wasn't just my imagination http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/05/ea-the-old-republic-has-lost-nearly-one-quarter-of-its-subscribers-since-march/

BioWare simply failed to understand what makes MMO. It's not cheesy voice-acted stories. It's not special effects. It's not pseudo-choices we all see through. Or half-baked stories palagerized from Star Wars films or 1930's Space Opera.

It's the SOCIAL TIES that bind MMOs. Not the gameplay mechanics. Not the stories. Not the special effects.

Social. And where is it? It's nowhere. My guild list was a bunch people with whom I never did anything. They never asked for my help. I never needed their help.

It was just a bunch of people cooincidently playing a solo-game and chatting. I can do that with Skype while I play Mount and Blade or KOTOR II or Civ V...

Regrettably, ToR is falling victim to the very things that Bioware was warned repeatably about.
I.E. it is foolhardy to build a game without enough mechanics to support player generated activities. ...and this doesn't even have to be sandbox mechanics.... a killer crafting system with supportive economic tools.
It is a mmo constant that players can consume content faster than it can be generated and as fantastic as the story-lines are the first time thru, the subsequent plays finds us space-barring thru the dialogue because we know it already.
At the very least, they should have given us Free-Space to fly, fight and mine rocks in....

I can't say that I am sad that the game isn't doing as good as expected but I also don't want it to hit the bottom that other games like Bioware Mythic's Warhammer Online.

I suspect the bleeding of TOR and the outcry over recent revelations about The Elder Scrolls Online all speak to one thing. That thing is change, players want it. TOR does a lot of neat things, and a few new things, but it is still very much a traditional MMORPG. I think that has hurt it.

I don't want to see the game fail, because as a gamer I know the pain of seeing something you love dwindle and embrace a future of mediocre update patterns. With that said, I am glad it has not been an overwhelming success and despite being a fan of the ES franchise, if TESO comes out with the same samey feel, I won't be too sad to see it hit the "doing alright" subscriber levels either.

Big money should always go to innovation.

No way to know the numbers for sure but I think because its more of what we have been doing for the last couple of years, just in another game.

I have yet to hit 50 on a class since the game started, only because the classes are all fun in their own right up until certain points. What I have heard in my guild from those that have been 50 is that they log in to do dailies repeatedly then run the same instances over and over again. Sounds a lot like what we all did in WoW for years on end and got bored there too.

So if people are leaving Swtor, its probably because we were bored before with what we were doing in our favorite game to drop it for another game that might bring something new. It did, by re-skinning what we were doing with the Star Wars IP. People are still standing around looking for instance runs...this time in fleet instead of Ironforge/Stormwind or Ogrimmar.

Not sure which version of TOR you're playing, but in the one we play, the storyline emphasises that the Mandalorians work for the Empire and it's very common for Sith and Mandalorian to be seen together. Further, if you knew this guild's backstory, which you obviously don't, you'd understand why it makes perfect sense. Such a shame you chose to post here, under a false name and email, just to sling mud when you really don't have the slightest clue what's going on.
