“Undecided” Recruitment is more trouble than it’s worth

You know, every time I swing past the “Undecided Recruitment” section of the official forums for The Old Republic, I see people who are firmly convinced that, for some unknown reason, “Undecided Recruitment” means there will be a third faction in TOR.

No amount of telling them that it’s a choice between Sith & Republic seems to shift this perception.

Aside from that, allowing an “Undecided” Recruitment” forum has created some other issues too, primarily encouraging many people to start half-baked guilds where they don’t even know what faction they’re going to be.

I mean, let’s get real here. Knowing what faction you want to play is the very underpinning of any guild concept. It’s the thing you should be starting with FIRST at the top of your list of things you want the guild to be about.

It STAGGERS me that people think they can start guilds without knowing what faction they will ultimately play in TOR. For mine, it borks the whole process, from the top of the guild tree right down to it’s lowest roots.

Think about this for a moment: Any “Undecided” Recruitment” guild will attract people who want to play Sith and people who want to play Republic. Now, call me crazy if you like, but SOMEONE is going to end up disappointed in each of these guild scenarios when the guild in question MUST choose one faction over the other in the end. It is inevitable.

So although this thread won’t actually change anything, my vote is on the table that “Undecided” Recruitment” is actually more trouble than it’s worth. Why not encourage guilds to actually PICK A SIDE first BEFORE starting a guild?

What’s that? Guilds shouldn’t have to deal with something so pesky as knowing why they exist? Ahhh, I see.

And that, as Yoda once said, is why you fail.

Just took a look at the undecided recruitment. Saw a guild called the Smugglers Union, checked the thread and its republic classes dont really get why they are in there, if you got a conceptt for a guild theres only two sides you can be on, pick one.

Well, that’s what I think too. But such simple logic seems to elude some folks in the TOR community. It’s kind of scary how dumb some people really seem to be.

I think it’s a mixture of trying to boost the numbers of applicants, not want to commit to one side and thinking yourself as oh so tolerant.
I doubt 1 in 10 of these guilds will survive the start of the game, unless they have previous members and games running.

I saw at least two “Mandalorian” guilds in teh undecided forum. And one even is “Leaning Republic”! Above and beyond the fact that the BH is clearly the most obvious Mandalorian class, in the fluff as revealed thus far, the alliance of the Mandalorians with the Sith is one of the most significant features of all the relevant new lore!! Are these folks even paying attention?

  5. blur says:

There’s actually way more than two, and they’d probably all claim they’re highly aware and to suggest otherwise would be an affront to their delicate sensibilities, however, all the things you indicated are perfectly true and I do wonder if these guilds have actually comprehended all the information provided thus far. Because all signs point to NO on that count!

Pretty silly. I mean if you don’t like the fact that the Mandalorians are affiliated with the Sith now that’s your choice but they have made it into a central and unavoidable plot point. More than a point really, one of the major axes around which this iteration of Star Wars pivots. It’s the topic of several of those entries by the Jedi librarian guy which is the main bedrock of this game’s lore, and which ties it to the larger SW universe lore laid out up to now! What argument could these guilds possibly have against this, besides “we don’t care we will just ignore the lore.”?
